2027: PDP is not deterred with exit of defectors -Party Chieftain Akwe

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, Hon. Mathew Akwe Thursday denied insulations that the internal wranglings in the party would consume the PDP ahead of 2027 reassuring that the opposition PDP remained the Nigerians favoured party.

Hon. Akwe who is a member of the party’s founding fathers, described recent wave of defectors from the party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political platforms in the state as “corrupt politicians and old criminals” who lost political direction and credibility.

Speaking during the PDP State Working Committee’s tour to Doma Local Government Area as part of mobilization and membership drive as well as restoring the people’s confidence among party members, Akwe said the party is not deterred with the exit of those he described as enemies of the party.

“Those leaving PDP for ADC and other political parties are corrupt politicians and old criminals looking for where to spend their looted money. They are more or less portfolio politicians without direction or focus.”

While adding that the exit of those leaving the party was a blessing to the PDP in Nasarawa State, Hon. Akwe claimined that such individuals had only contributed to destroying the image of the party.

“Their exit is for the good of our party. They were the ones destroying the PDP and giving it a bad name. With them gone, we are now more ready than ever to reclaim power in 2027,” Akwe said.

“We in Doma have endorsed Hon. Emmanuel Ombugadu as our 2027 governorship candidate because he has proven himself. We believe in him,”, Akwe stated
, calling on all tribes across the state to unite and support a leader with the people’s interest at heart.

The former member of the working committee while appealing to the Eggon nation to promote their son and ensure victory for the party in the 2027 governorship election, urged the newly constituted party leadership to engage stakeholders and critical actors in the state to sustain momentum and build broad-based support.

“You are lucky to have been voted into power at a time when other parties are facing crisis and hunger is everywhere. Please reach out to those who matter and continue to engage the grassroots,” he added.

Akwe commended the State PDP Chairman, Hon. Adamu Ninga, for his resilience in holding the party together and called on him to remain focused in the push for victory in 2027.

Earlier, the state Chairman of the party, Hon. Adamu Bako Ninga had told the crowed that greeted the visit to Doma that the visit was designed to rebuild the members confidence, strengthen the unity. amongst members.

He disclosed that the national leadership of the party had directed state chapters to reconnect with founding fathers of the party.

“We are here to tell our people that PDP is intact. We are returning to the foundation and reaching out to founding fathers to move the party forward,” he said.

Ninga hailed Hon. Mathew Akwe as a man of peace and a key figure in the history of the PDP, adding, “He is one of our founding fathers and a leader we must continue to learn from.”
