FCT 2026 : INEC Sets Up Election Monitoring Centre

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has established an Election Monitoring Centre to track developments and respond to emergencies during Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory FCT, Area Council elections.

The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner Mallam Aminu Idris who stated this while updating News Men on the level of preparedness for the polls said all sensitive and non-sensitive materials would be deployed to Registration Area Centres this afternoon to ensure early distribution to polling units for election to commence at 8:30 as scheduled .

Mr Idris said transport unions engaged for the exercise must adhere strictly to the terms of their memorandum of understanding, warning that the commission would not tolerate lapses.

Mallam Aminu Idris said Seventeen Political Parties are participating in this Saturday’s FCT Area Council and the commission was set to ensure strict compliance to the electoral Act and Election guidelines in the conduct of the polls.

According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, the Electoral Act and Election guidelines clearly stipulates the window period for Candidates and Political Parties to withdraw from the election.

He maintained that candidates or political parties who are just stepping down and announcing their withdrawal from tomorrow’s election are doing so contrary to the law.

He said adequate ad-hoc staff, Ward supervisors, electoral officers and Area Council supervisors have been adequately trained and deployed for the exercise.

The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner
assured that all Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems BVAS deployed to the fields have been configured and tested for effective and timely capturing of voters.

According to him, additional BVAS are on standby while technical officers have also been deployed strategically to attend to emergencies.

He urged residents with Permanent Voter Cards not to entertain any fear as security agencies have identified and made adequate deployment to all black spots across the Six Area Councils.
