The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will on Tuesday commence a seven-day special operation aimed at curbing the excesses of motorists, particularly commercial drivers, along the Airport Road in Abuja.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, the FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Felix Theman, expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of reckless and dangerous driving along the route, which have resulted in numerous fatalities.

He explained that the operation would also target vehicles being used to pick up passengers in unauthorized areas, obstructing traffic, as well as those engaging in commercial activities under pedestrian bridges along the corridor.

According to Theman, the FRSC is collaborating with other security agencies to ensure full enforcement during the exercise.

On the ongoing campaign against overloading within the Federal Capital Territory, the Sector Commander revealed that three mobile courts had been activated to strengthen enforcement.

He stressed that overloading of passengers and goods not only endangers lives by making the use of seatbelts impossible but also puts undue strain on vehicle tyres and suspension systems.

“It impairs the driver’s ability to control the vehicle effectively, especially during emergencies,” Theman stated.
