Food Security: Foundation Doles Out Agro Products to Boost Farming Activities
By Iyojo Ameh
In a bid to strengthen food security and promote sustainable agriculture, the GB-Irorun Foundation has flagged off the second phase of its AgriDevelopment Program in Mopa, Kogi State, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic farmers from across the region.
The launch of the GB-Irorun AgriDevelopment Program 2.0 at Mopa Market witnessed an impressive turnout of smallholder farmers and agro-entrepreneurs eager to benefit from the initiative’s comprehensive package of support. The program offered free improved seedlings, subsidized fertilizers and herbicides, as well as live demonstrations and training sessions facilitated by agricultural experts.

The market buzzed with activity as local farmers expressed optimism about the prospects of increased yield, reduced input costs, and improved farming practices.
Describing the program as “a movement toward food security, rural transformation, and self-sufficiency,” Pastor Babagbemi Joseph Adejola, founder of the GB-Irorun Foundation, reiterated his commitment to empowering farmers at the grassroots.
Prior to the Mopa event, the program was flagged off at Amuro Market on Monday, July 7, where Pastor Babagbemi also joined the community in celebrating their annual New Yam Festival. In his goodwill message, he praised the industrious spirit of the Amuro people and acknowledged their contribution to agricultural development in Kogi State.

“I congratulate the good people of Amuro on this year’s New Yam Festival. Your hard work, your culture, and your devotion to farming are worth celebrating,” he said. “As we prepare to sow into agriculture, may your harvests continue to multiply in peace and abundance.”

According to the Foundation, the current outreach is part of a broader plan to cover multiple rural communities across Yagba Federal Constituency, with upcoming stops at other markets in subsequent days.
“We are committed to ensuring that no farmer is left behind, regardless of location,” Babagbemi assured. “Our focus is on building capacity, reducing poverty, and driving economic growth through agriculture.”

Farmers and stakeholders at the event lauded the program’s relevance and timeliness, especially amidst rising input costs and the need for innovation in local food production.
Community leaders also praised the Foundation’s efforts, calling for more collaborative partnerships to deepen agricultural development across rural Nigeria.

The GB-Irorun AgriDevelopment Program was launched in 2023 to support farmers through knowledge transfer, improved inputs, and practical agricultural innovation in Kogi State and beyond.
