The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the establishment of two new Area Commands and the upgrade of five police stations to divisional status in Benue State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Friday Enemari, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet. He explained that the restructuring was necessary to address challenges encountered in policing troubled local government areas across the state.

According to Enemari, a review of recent security operations revealed significant gaps between the police and some communities, making the adjustment imperative.

The newly created Area Commands are Daudu and Naka, while the police stations upgraded to divisional status are Ayilamo, Yelewata, Jato-Aka, Okokolo, and Agan.

The statement noted that the Daudu Area Command will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelewata, and Agan Divisions, while the Naka Area Command will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okokolo Divisions.

Enemari emphasized that the adjustment will enhance security operations in difficult terrains and conflict-prone areas, particularly in addressing farmer-herder clashes and ensuring swift responses to distress calls.
