The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal recorded 26,255 hits within hours of its launch on Monday, August 18, 2025.

According to the Commission, the online pre-registration exercise, which commenced at 8:00 a.m., is designed to give eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register, update, or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the nationwide physical registration that will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at INEC state and local government offices.

INEC explained that the platform is open to citizens who have recently turned 18, as well as those seeking to replace lost or damaged PVCs. However, it warned against multiple registrations, stressing that such acts remain prohibited and punishable under the law.

The Commission commended Nigerians for their enthusiastic response to the exercise and urged more eligible voters to take advantage of the online portal to secure their right to vote.

“The surge in hits on the CVR portal underscores the growing commitment of Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. We encourage all citizens to register now and ensure they can fully exercise their franchise in future elections,” INEC stated.
