Insecurity: Nigerian Army Relocates Special Forces Training School to Nasarawa to Enhance Security and Development
By David Odama
In a strategic move to strengthen security and promote development in Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule on Friday hosted the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and his Principal Officers on a high-level courtesy visit.
The visit formally conveyed the Nigerian Army Headquarters’ decision to relocate the Special Forces Training School to Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Governor Sule, known for his strong advocacy of security-driven development, described the relocation as a “major leap forward” for the state’s security architecture and a clear vote of confidence in its stability and growing importance.
Expressing optimism, the governor noted that the presence of the Special Forces Training School would not only enhance rapid response to security threats in the North-Central region but also strengthen collaboration between the military and the civilian population.
“This is a strong statement by the Nigerian Army and a step that aligns with our vision to make Nasarawa a hub of peace, investment, and national service,” Governor Sule said.
In his remarks, Lt. Gen. Oluyede highlighted Nasarawa’s strategic relevance in Nigeria’s security framework. He noted that the state’s proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, its relatively peaceful environment, and supportive governance made it an ideal choice for hosting the elite Special Forces unit.
“This relocation is more than just a structural shift; it is a strategic investment in the future of security and professionalism in the Nigerian Army,” the Army Chief declared.
He further announced plans for a Foundation Laying Ceremony at the site of the new Special Forces Headquarters in Doma, an event expected to draw senior military officers, government officials, and other security stakeholders, underscoring the project’s importance.
City Post observed that beyond boosting security, the relocation is set to stimulate economic and infrastructural growth in Nasarawa. With an expanded military presence in Doma, residents can anticipate better road networks, improved social amenities, and increased job opportunities, particularly in construction, logistics, and support services.
As preparations for the foundation stone-laying advance, the people of Nasarawa State look forward with renewed hope. With stronger ties between government and security institutions, the state is poised to take a more prominent place on Nigeria’s national map — not only as a gateway to the capital but also as a new center for elite military training and regional stability.
