JUST IN: NDLEA Cross River Commander Found Dead in Calabar Hotel
The Cross River State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Morrison Ogbonna, was on Thursday discovered dead in his hotel room in Calabar.
Reports indicate that his body was found by his officers, who had gone to the hotel to pick him up for a scheduled assignment.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, said:
“This morning, some officers went to the hotel to pick him up. When there was no response, they alerted the hotel management. The room was opened, and he was found lifeless.”
Ogbonna had only recently assumed duty in Cross River State, following his posting in August 2025 to replace Rachel Umebuali.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River, SP Irene Ugbo-Obase, stated:
“I can confirm that this is true, but the cause of his death is something I cannot readily disclose.”
