Kebbi Abduction: Army Vows Sanctions for Soldiers Allegedly Leaving Duty Post in Maga

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its resolve to take firm action against any personnel implicated in the alleged withdrawal of soldiers from Maga community before the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

A dependable source at the Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway.

On Nov. 17, 25 students were kidnapped from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.

Governor Nasir Idris had earlier requested clarification from military authorities over the reported withdrawal of troops from the school.

According to the source, the ongoing investigation seeks to determine who authorised the withdrawal and whether established operational procedures were followed.

He said the army leadership views the matter “with utmost seriousness” and is ready to discipline any personnel found negligent, regardless of rank.

“The investigation is thorough and transparent. If any officer or soldier is found culpable in the unauthorised withdrawal or any act of negligence, appropriate disciplinary and legal measures will be taken,” he said.

The source added that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has restated the army’s commitment to professionalism and the protection of communities across the country.

He urged the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to run its course, assuring that the findings would be made public in line with the army’s dedication to accountability and public confidence.

The source further revealed that troops are working with other security agencies and the Kebbi State Government to secure the release of the abducted schoolgirls and strengthen security in vulnerable areas.
