Lagos LG Polls: PDP Laments Continued Detention of It’s Members
Nearly one month after the local government elections in Lagos State, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party)PDP), Chief Gbenga Gbolahan, has cried out over the continued detention of PDP members loyal to Mr. Adedeji Oluwafemim Olooto, a chieftain of the opposition PDP in Surulere Ward 2.
According to Gbolahan, a staunch PDP member from Surulere Ward 2, the supporters of Olooto that are still held behind bars are Mr Okechukwu, Mr Kamoli Olawale, Mr Godwin Momoh and Mr Abiodun Adeosun.
He described the just concluded local council elections in the state as a charade as according to him, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) hijacked the processes, insisting that elections did not take place.
He noted that the PDP and the Labour Party were the greatest losers at the local government elections in Lagos State.
According to him, while electorates were waiting to be accredited for the election, a group of thugs accompanied by men in police uniform stormed polling unit 037 and attacked the electorates.
He added that even after the initial attack on the voters, another group of young men stormed the polling places less than 25 minutes of commencement of voting and carted away voting materials.
Gbolahan regretted that what transpired at the Surulere Ward 2 was a reflection that “APC are hell bent on witch-hunting perceived opposition members.
He further noted that not only did the APC hijacked the processes of the election, they also arrested some perceived opposition members and drove them away in police van.
Gbolahan specifically mentioned that some of PDP loyalists that were driven away in police vans and that all efforts to secure their release has hit the rocks.
The PDP stalwart also lamented that the media practitioners that were around to cover the elections were ordered to stop recording the proceedings of the elections and take down their electronic news gathering equipment.
