By Our Correspondent
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has unveiled plans to construct 200 housing units for victims of natural disasters in Kebbi State as part of efforts to provide permanent shelter and support to affected communities.
The Director General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, disclosed this on Friday during the official handover of relief materials to the Kebbi State Government. The items are meant to assist victims of recent rainstorms, windstorms, and floods that ravaged several local government areas.
Hajiya Umar noted that Kebbi has faced a series of crises in recent years, including persistent flooding, windstorms, and security-related challenges. She commended the resilience and strength of the people, describing them as a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.
She emphasized that the most recent natural disasters severely impacted communities in Shanga, Suru, Bunza, Danko-Wasagu, Koko-Bese, and Augie LGAs, leading to displacement and worsening the vulnerability of residents.
“The handover and flag-off of relief materials today reaffirm the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” she stated. “These food and non-food relief items are part of ongoing recovery efforts to cushion the impact of the disasters.”
Receiving the materials, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasiru Idris, expressed gratitude to NEMA for its prompt intervention and continuous support. He hailed the agency’s decision to build 200 housing units for displaced persons, calling it a significant step toward restoring dignity and stability to affected families.
