President Tinubu Reschedules Kaduna Trip, Heads to Benue Over Renewed Violence
By Iyojo Ameh
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled visit to Kaduna State and will instead travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in a bid to address the protracted crisis plaguing communities across the state.
The shift in the President’s itinerary was announced in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, the visit is part of the President’s renewed commitment to fostering peace and stability in Benue, where recurrent violence has claimed numerous lives and displaced thousands.
During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to engage a broad range of stakeholders—including traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, community heads, and youth representatives—in a town hall meeting aimed at charting a path toward lasting peace.
In anticipation of the visit, the President has dispatched a high-powered federal delegation to the state. The delegation includes the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence.
President Tinubu has repeatedly condemned the ongoing violence in Benue, urging leaders and citizens to embrace peace, unity, and mutual respect. He has also extended condolences to the families of victims and all those affected by the unrest.
Originally, President Tinubu was scheduled to be in Kaduna State on Wednesday to commission several state government projects. That visit has now been rescheduled for Thursday, June 19, 2025.
