PRESIDENT TINUBU’S MESSAGE TO THE SUPER FALCONS AHEAD OF THE 2024 WAFCON FINAL IN RABAT
My beloved Super Falcons,
As you prepare to step onto the pitch tonight for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against host nation Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, know that you carry the hopes and pride of an entire nation.
Your journey throughout this tournament has been nothing short of remarkable. With determination, grace, and resilience, you have showcased the very best of Nigerian spirit—on and off the field.
Your act of kindness in visiting Gabriela Salgado of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana after the semi-final match is a testament to your compassion and sportsmanship. That moment of solidarity reflected the values of empathy and unity that define our African identity.
From your unbeaten run in the group stage to your composed victories in the knockout rounds—conceding just a single goal along the way—you have proven yourselves worthy finalists. With nine previous continental titles to your name, your legacy already speaks volumes.
On behalf of a proud and grateful nation, we are with you in spirit and prayer as you strive tonight to claim a historic tenth WAFCON title.
To demonstrate our full support, I have dispatched a presidential delegation to Rabat, including the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, among others.
I also extend my appreciation to the families of our players, coaching staff, friends, the Nigerian community in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and our Mission in Morocco for their steadfast encouragement throughout this campaign.
By the Grace of God, you will finish strong. Go for the tenth title! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow Nigerians—young and old—stand solidly behind you.
I eagerly await the honour of receiving the team, the trophy, and the officials in Abuja.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
President, Federal Republic of Nigeria
