The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Reverend Uma Ukpai, founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, who died at the age of 80.

For several decades, Evangelist Uma Ukpai, an international preacher of the gospel who led countless souls to Christ through his global evangelistic ministry, operated from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In a heartfelt tribute personally signed by Senator Akpabio, he described Evangelist Uma Ukpai as “God’s General”—a man who remained steadfast in his divine calling and whose ministry impacted not only the Kingdom of God but humanity at large.

“Today, we mourn the passing of God’s General, Evangelist Uma Ukpai, whose transition has left the body of Christ and humanity in deep sorrow. He was more than an evangelist who won souls for God; he was a beacon of light who illuminated countless lives,” Akpabio stated.

He noted that Evangelist Ukpai’s unwavering commitment to preaching the word of God globally stood as a remarkable testament to his faith and devotion. “His legacy remains one of impact, inspiration, and hope for everyone who encountered him,” he added.

Akpabio further highlighted the late evangelist’s contributions beyond the pulpit, acknowledging his efforts in establishing schools and medical facilities to cater to the educational and healthcare needs of his community.

“His passing has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Though his departure is a great loss to the body of Christ, I find comfort in knowing that Heaven has gained another angel to watch over God’s flock. Indeed, he has joined the heavenly choir to sing praises before the Lord,” Akpabio said.

He described Ukpai as a man who “fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith,” praying that his soul would rest in the bosom of the Lord he faithfully served.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Pastor Philomena Uma Ukpai, his entire family, and the body of Christ. May you all find comfort in his remarkable and impactful life, and in the knowledge that though he may have left us physically, his legacy endures,” the Senate President concluded.

“Rest in peace, God’s faithful servant.”
