Senate to Screen Newly Appointed Service Chiefs Wednesday
Iyojo Ameh
The Senate will on Wednesday screen the newly appointed Service Chiefs recently nominated by President Bola Tinubu.
The decision followed the announcement by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for immediate screening and confirmation of the nominees.
Akpabio noted that the urgency of the exercise was necessitated by the prevailing security challenges across the country, stressing that the new security chiefs must assume duty without delay.
President Tinubu had last week approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff (CAS), and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff (CNS).
He also retained Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye as the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).
