SGF Akume Urges Benue People to Sustain Support for President Tinubu …Facilitates Renovation, Upgrading of Alma Mater Primary School
By Dooshima Terkura, Makurdi
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has called on the people of Benue State to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order to ensure the successful implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akume made the appeal in Wanune, Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, on Friday, September 5, 2025, during the handover of newly renovated school structures at LGEA Primary School Wanune—his alma mater. The project, which included the installation of a fully equipped ICT laboratory, was facilitated through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The facilities were officially handed over to the Education Secretary of Tarka Local Government, Mr. Aondoakaa Kwaghbo.
In an emotion-filled moment, Akume reflected on his early life, saying:
“Today is a very great and fulfilling day for me as it rekindles beautiful and cherished memories of my childhood. My journey to stardom began here many decades ago. The renovation of these structures and the establishment of the ICT laboratory represent my modest contribution to the growth of my alma mater and to education in Benue State.”
The SGF further charged the people to rally behind President Tinubu, noting that he has initiated transformative policies and infrastructure projects capable of driving Nigeria’s development.
“I urge you to continue to support my principal, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has embarked on life-changing initiatives that only he has the capacity and determination to see through. Projects such as the Makurdi-Katsina Ala Road reconstruction, Badagry-Sokoto Highway, Makurdi-Otukpo-9th Mile Road, Lagos-Calabar Super Highway, and the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway are underway, with more to come, all geared towards boosting national economic growth,” Akume stated.
The SGF also announced a scholarship scheme for pupils of LGEA Primary School Wanune and encouraged residents to take full advantage of the Federal Polytechnic Wanune, which currently runs about 21 accredited courses.
In his remarks, the Education Secretary, Mr. Aondoakaa Kwaghbo, expressed gratitude to Senator Akume, describing education as the foundation of sustainable development. He commended the provision of the ICT centre, noting that it would significantly improve students’ computer literacy.
Performing the official handover, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Hajiya Aisha Garba, lauded Senator Akume for his thoughtfulness and hospitality. She was accompanied by members of the UBEC team, including Director of Physical Planning, Engr. Sadiq Saad; Mr. Ibrahim Gold, Special Assistant to the ES; and Mr. Rasaq Juwon Akinyemi, Deputy ES (Technical).
Also speaking at the event, the Ter Mbakor, HRH Gandeoron Gregory, who led other traditional rulers, praised Senator Akume for his continuous efforts in projecting the people of Mbakor and Benue onto the national stage.
“My dearest son, Senator Dr. George Akume, you remain our pride. Today, I stand in communion with the ancestors of our land to bless you. We also reaffirm our total support to President Tinubu in his mission to reform Nigeria,” he declared.
A statement issued by the SGF’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, and made available to newsmen, reaffirmed Akume’s pledge to sustain educational support in the state through scholarships and enhanced learning facilities.
