President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the name of Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro to the Senate for confirmation as the new ministerial nominee from Plateau State. This came barely twenty-four hours after the announcement of his appointment.

Dr. Doro is to replace Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who previously represented Plateau State in the Federal Executive Council but now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The President’s request for confirmation was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during Wednesday’s plenary session.

In the letter, President Tinubu cited Section 147, Subsection 2 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the legal basis for the request, urging the Senate to give it prompt consideration.

Senate President Akpabio subsequently referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for screening and possible confirmation as soon as practicable.

However, the earliest date for the Senate to consider the request will be next Tuesday, as plenary will not hold on Thursday due to a Constitution Review Retreat scheduled to take place in Lagos over the weekend.
