Tinubu Swears in Nnanna Uzor-Kalu as NASC Commissioner
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Hon. Nnanna Johnson Uzor-Kalu as the 12th Commissioner of the 6th National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).
Uzor-Kalu’s inauguration comes after the initial swearing-in of the Commission on May 5, 2025, when President Tinubu appointed Chief Saviour Enyiekere as Executive Chairman alongside 11 Commissioners. Uzor-Kalu was unable to take the oath on that date as he was undergoing Senate screening.
This was disclosed in a statement by Emmanuel N. Anyigor, Deputy Director and Spokesperson of the National Assembly Service Commission.
With his swearing-in, the South-East now has two representatives in the Commission, aligning it with the representation balance of other geo-political zones.
A seasoned politician, Uzor-Kalu served two terms in the House of Representatives (2003–2007 and 2007–2011), representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency. He hails from Bende Local Government Area of Abia State and has made notable contributions across politics, business, and socio-cultural spheres.
He was a founding member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), under which he was first elected and served as Deputy Minority Whip—an achievement in a region then dominated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), under which his elder brother, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, served as Governor of Abia State.
Throughout his legislative career, he was active on numerous key committees, playing a role in shaping national policy.
Beyond politics, Uzor-Kalu has held top positions across sectors including banking, finance, and insurance, and has served as a board member of various local and international organizations. He holds more than 48 traditional titles and over 20 merit awards, including an honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration from Atlas University, Philadelphia, USA.
Before this latest appointment, he served as Director of Administration to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, from 2019 to 2023.
Hon. Uzor-Kalu is married with children. His interests include soccer, American football, table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, and boxing.
He now formally represents the South-East zone on the National Assembly Service Commission.
