A coalition of concerned stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has said that it is strongly opposed to the purported adoption of a consensus candidate by the party, ahead of 2027, describing the popurted adoption as illegal, undemocratic, and a threat to party unity.
Speaking at a press conference on behalf of party elders, youths, and grassroots mobilizers, Comrade Jibrin Idris Ibrahim, Chairman of the Concerned PDP Stakeholders Forum, alleged that the adoption of a candidate at a meeting held on July 10, 2025, at the home of the immediate past chairman of the party. Francis Orogu in Lafia does not reflect the will of the party.
“We are completely oppose to the manipulation orchestrated to impose a candidate through the back door,” Comrade Jibrin declared.
The group reiterated that no aspirant has been officially endorsed by the PDP in Nasarawa and warned the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) against validating such moves.
The further called for disciplinary action against Orogu, the current PDP North Central Zonal Secretary, and any other officials allegedly involved in promotion of illegality within the party.
The stakeholders emphasized the need for party to adhere strictly to transparency, fairness, and constitutional processes ahead of 2027 primaries.
“We urge all aspirants to continue peaceful consultations and prepare for primaries based on the party’s guidelines,” the group stated.
“We urged party faithful and supporters across the state to remain calm and vigilant as they work toward reclaiming political leadership through unity and credible internal democracy.
