The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is said to arrested businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

She was reportly arrested at about 5 am. on Tuesday, on her back home to the country from London.

Achimugu was declared wanted by the EFCC in March 2025 on allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Recall that the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo, had, on Monday, April 28, 2025, ordered her to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday and before the court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Achimugu’s lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed her arrest, expressing dismay over what he termed a violation of a court order.

“Aisha Achimugu, who arrived voluntarily into the country from London, was arrested by the EFCC around 5 a.m. on Tuesday,” Ojukwu said.

“In light of what transpired in court on Monday, my client returned based on the undertaking before the court to honour the EFCC’s invitation, but was arrested at the airport.”

Ojukwu criticised the EFCC’s actions, describing them as a breach of his client’s fundamental rights.
