The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has mourned the death of elder statesman and former Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, describing it as a monumental loss to Nigeria.

Akume, who paid a condolence visit to Ogbeh’s residence in Abuja on Saturday, hailed the late politician as a distinguished leader, consummate public servant, and patriot who devoted his life to serving his people and the nation in various capacities.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, the SGF noted that Ogbeh lived a life of total service to Benue State and the entire country, adding that his vast experience, knowledge, and influence at both national and international levels would be greatly missed.

“I received with a deep sense of grief and loss, the passing of a statesman, farmer, playwright, and politician, Chief Audu Ogbeh,” Akume said. “He was a man who served with integrity and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project. Beyond his achievements as Minister of Communications in the Second Republic, he was a voice of reason as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 2001 to January 2005 and made a lasting impact as Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.”
