Senate President Akpabio Returns from London, Debunks Health Rumours

Abuja, Nigeria – President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, has returned to the country from London early Monday morning, appearing in good health and dismissing rumours of ill health circulating on social media.

Several online reports had suggested that Senator Akpabio was critically ill and hospitalized in London. Addressing journalists on arrival, the Senate President described the claims as unfounded:

> “There’s nothing like that. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation.”

Background

The Senate President recently attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29 to 31. Following the conference, he proceeded to London for a brief rest after a demanding legislative year.

Arrival in Abuja

Akpabio touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 4:00 a.m. on Monday. He was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and Nigerians from various walks of life.

Commitment to Nigerians

Speaking further, Senator Akpabio assured citizens of renewed and robust legislative engagements when the Senate reconvenes. He also defended the presence of a strong Nigerian delegation at the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, emphasizing that the country stands to gain more from democratic governance and continued collaboration with other arms of government.
