US Reaffirms Social Media Disclosure Requirement for Visa Applicants

The United States government has restated that all visa applicants are required to disclose their social media history covering the past five years.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the U.S. Mission in Nigeria emphasized that applicants must provide every username or handle they have used on all social media platforms within that period when completing the DS-160 visa application form.

According to the Mission, applicants must also certify the accuracy of the information provided before signing and submitting the application.

It further cautioned that failure to disclose social media details could result in visa denial and even disqualify the applicant from future applications.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit.

“Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the Mission stated.
