President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has announced the end of the state of emergency declared in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, confirming it will be lifted at midnight.

In a personally signed statement, Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded during the emergency period.

“I am happy today that, from the intelligence available to me, there is a groundswell of a new spirit of understanding, a robust readiness, and potent enthusiasm on the part of all the stakeholders in Rivers State for an immediate return to democratic governance. This is undoubtedly a welcome development for me and a remarkable achievement for us. I therefore do not see why the state of emergency should exist a day longer than the six months I had pronounced at the beginning of it,” he said.

The President declared that the emergency rule would officially end at midnight. Consequently, Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, alongside members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, will resume office on September 18, 2025.

Tinubu further urged all governors and state assemblies nationwide to prioritize peace, order, and good governance as the foundation for delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians.
