Gunmen Murder Businessman in Kogi, Abduct Bus Passengers
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a well-known businessman, Aloysius Eze, after abducting him in Abugi, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers invaded the town on Tuesday evening, shooting indiscriminately before seizing Eze from his spare parts shop. His body was later discovered on the outskirts of the community, throwing residents into mourning.
The deceased, fondly called “Aloy,” was described by locals as a peace-loving entrepreneur who contributed immensely to the town’s development by establishing its first petrol station and pure water factory, both of which provided jobs and boosted the local economy.
“This is heartbreaking. If someone like Aloy, who gave so much to this community, could be killed in such a manner, then no one is safe,” lamented Baba Yusuf, the youth leader of the community.
In another incident, armed men reportedly hijacked a commercial bus with all passengers on board along the Ejiba–Isanlu–Odo-Ere Road in Yagba West LGA on Thursday, and also killed a motorcyclist en route to Isanlu.
Police spokesman, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the Abugi killing, stating that the victim was abducted around 8:45 p.m. on September 30 and later found dead. He added that investigations are ongoing, while details of the Ejiba abduction were still being awaited.
