Ahead of the February 21, 2026, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, the Yunusa Dantani Sarki (YDS) Foundation has declared its support for the incumbent AMAC Chairman, Hon.

Christopher Maikalangu, saying he deserves a second term to complete the various projects spread across the council’s 12 wards.

The group noted that Maikalangu’s re-election would ensure continuity of developmental initiatives and attract more people-oriented projects to the area council.

Speaking during the group’s official declaration of support in Abuja on Tuesday, former Deputy Speaker of the Council and ex-chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Yunusa Dantani Sarki, said he had stepped down for the incumbent to continue his transformation agenda, describing Maikalangu’s tenure as impactful.

Sarki, who also leads the foundation, stated:

> “I am here today to officially declare my support, and that of my supporters, for Maikalangu. Some months ago, I stepped down as an individual, but today I want my supporters to bear witness that I stepped down for him. Maikalangu has seen my supporters, and we are now working together.”

He added:

> “Yes, I aspired for the AMAC chairmanship, but when he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he became the leader of the party in AMAC. I had to step down to allow him to complete his second term and fulfill his promises.”

Hon. Sarki also urged residents of AMAC to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of next year’s council election.

> “The voter registration is ongoing. Those without PVCs should register and get their cards. They should take advantage of the four-day extension to ensure they are registered,” he said.

In his remarks, Hon. Maikalangu expressed gratitude for the group’s endorsement and promised not to disappoint them if re-elected, assuring that he remains committed to delivering on his mandate.
