Live Broadcast: Court to Deliver Nnamdi Kanu’s Judgment Today
The Federal High Court in Abuja will today deliver a landmark judgment in the terrorism-related charges against Nnamdi Kanu, with the proceedings scheduled to be aired live to the public.
According to the court’s registrar, the arrangement was confirmed earlier this morning. The courtroom has been set up for the historic live telecast, and camera crews from major television networks—NTA, Channels TV, AIT, and TVC—are already on ground with their equipment.
Justice James Omotosho fixed the judgment for November 21, following the November 7 hearing. The date was scheduled after the court closed Kanu’s opportunity to present a defence. The court took this decision when the defendant maintained that he would not mount a defence under a repealed law, even after being granted six days to do so.
In his ruling, Justice Omotosho held that Kanu’s refusal to take the opportunity amounted to a waiver of his right to a defence.
The judge added that he would have been inclined to extend the allotted time if Kanu had opted to open his defence, noting that the defendant could not later claim a denial of his constitutional right to fair hearing after declining the chance provided by the court.
