British boxing star Anthony Joshua produced a dominant display on Friday night, stopping YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul with a sixth-round knockout in a much-publicised heavyweight bout at the Kaseya Center in Miami on December 19.

The contest, streamed live on Netflix to a global audience, was among the most talked-about events in recent combat sports history, combining elite boxing pedigree with celebrity appeal in a spectacle that drew intense attention worldwide.

Marketed as “Judgment Day,” the fight carried enormous expectations from the opening bell. Joshua, a two-time unified heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist, entered as a clear favourite despite returning from over a year away from the ring following his stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
Paul, a social media sensation whose boxing career has been as controversial as it has been visible, was viewed as a bold but risky challenger. Primarily a cruiserweight, the American stepped up to face a far more experienced heavyweight, giving away size, reach and ring pedigree. While the matchup generated curiosity and debate, it ultimately served as a reminder of the sport’s fundamentals.
The physical gap between both fighters was evident even before the first punch was thrown. Joshua weighed in at 243.4 pounds, nearly 30 pounds heavier than Paul, who tipped the scales at 216.6 pounds. Standing at six feet six inches with a significant reach advantage, Joshua appeared every inch the seasoned contender aiming to reassert his authority at the top level.
Paul attempted to compensate with movement and caution, leaning on speed and unpredictability to avoid sustained exchanges. That approach shaped the early rounds, as Joshua, measured and patient while shaking off ring rust, struggled initially to pin down his opponent.
The opening four rounds unfolded at a slower pace than many anticipated. Paul relied heavily on evasion and clinching, while Joshua applied steady pressure without fully opening up. The lack of action drew mixed reactions from the crowd, with some fans voicing disappointment at the absence of early fireworks.
The complexion of the fight changed in the fifth round. Joshua began finding his range and landing clean, powerful shots, sending Paul to the canvas twice as the American’s energy visibly waned and his defensive tactics faltered.
Sensing the end was near, Joshua pressed his advantage in the sixth round. After flooring Paul again with a crushing right hand, the former champion unleashed a series of precise and heavy blows, forcing the referee to step in and halt the contest at 1:31 of the round.
The stoppage marked Joshua’s first knockout victory since his win over Francis Ngannou earlier in 2024 and firmly halted Paul’s attempt to make a landmark statement in his unconventional boxing journey.
