An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Uche Nwosu, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, for what he described as significant improvements in security operations across the country.
Speaking during an interview with journalists in Abuja, Chief Nwosu emphasized the importance of appointing professionals with in-depth sectoral experience to key government positions.

He noted that the appointment of a retired senior military officer as Minister of Defence has renewed public confidence in Nigeria’s security architecture, stressing that the minister’s vast experience within the armed forces has positively impacted the fight against banditry, insurgency and kidnapping.
According to him, recent military operations have dealt serious blows to criminal networks, forcing many bandits to abandon their hideouts.
Chief Nwosu further stated that the improved security situation has encouraged Nigerians to resume road travel, particularly during the festive period, with a noticeable reduction in reported kidnapping incidents along major highways.
He dismissed calls for dialogue or negotiation with bandits, insisting that criminals responsible for killing and abducting innocent citizens should not be engaged in talks.
The APC chieftain called on the Federal Government to sustain the current military momentum in security-challenged states such as Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Borno and Plateau, while urging political leaders to reflect deeply on the future of the nation.
On the economy, Chief Nwosu acknowledged the hardship Nigerians are facing due to high food prices but observed that the cost of staple foods, especially rice, has dropped significantly in recent months.
He said a bag of rice, which previously sold for as much as one hundred thousand naira, now goes for between forty-five and fifty-five thousand naira in many markets.
He attributed the price reduction to government interventions and called for increased investment in agriculture, stressing that improved security would enable farmers to return to their farms and boost food production.
Chief Nwosu also commended the Federal Government’s commitment to domestic refining, particularly developments surrounding the Dangote Refinery, describing local refining as critical to achieving affordable fuel prices and economic stability.
On tax reforms, the APC chieftain appealed to President Tinubu to critically review the new tax laws, especially their impact on small businesses and the general populace.
He noted that while tax reforms are necessary, greater consideration should be given to small and medium-scale enterprises that are still struggling to survive.
According to him, higher tax burdens should be placed on large corporations with stronger financial capacity, rather than imposing additional pressure on small-scale businesses and ordinary Nigerians.
Chief Nwosu concluded that a balanced tax system would promote business growth, create jobs and ease economic hardship for the masses.
