North-West Governors Rule Out Dialogue with Bandits, Vow Tough Action – Gov. Aliyu
The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has declared that governors in the North-West region will not engage in negotiations with bandits.
This was contained in a statement issued by Abubakar Bawa, Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto.
Governor Aliyu made the declaration in Katsina State during the commissioning of the N12.6 billion, 8.1-kilometre Yandaki–Shinkafi–Kofar Sauri Road, constructed by the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda.
He noted that governors across the North-West are united in their resolve to end the insecurity affecting the region, adding that significant resources are being committed by state governments to address the challenge.
“We will not negotiate with any criminal, nor will we accept any offer from them unless they surrender unconditionally,” the governor stated.
Aliyu reassured residents of the region that state governments, in collaboration with security agencies, are refining strategies aimed at ending banditry and other criminal activities.
He urged citizens to support government efforts by identifying and exposing informants within their communities, stressing that bandit attacks often involve some level of local collaboration.
“We must take responsibility at the community level by remaining vigilant and monitoring suspicious movements,” he added.
The governor also called on the public to continue praying for the success of ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region and across the country.
He commended the Katsina State Governor for initiating the State Community Guard, designed to complement conventional security agencies in tackling banditry.
“I recall that after witnessing the inauguration of the Katsina State Community Guard, I returned to Sokoto and established our own Community Guard Corps,” he said.
Governor Aliyu described the initiative as effective and capable of delivering meaningful results.
He further praised Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Chairman of the North-West APC Governors’ Forum, for his quality leadership.
