The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received two 100MVA power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina State, in a move aimed at strengthening electricity supply across the North-West.

The transformers were delivered to the TCN Kano Region on July 9, 2026, as part of the company’s strategic grid expansion programme.

In a statement issued on Monday, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the new equipment would play a critical role in completing the Katsina substation project and expanding the national transmission network.

According to the statement, the transformers will add 160 megawatts (MW) to the region’s transmission capacity once they are installed, tested and commissioned.

TCN said the project is expected to improve the reliability, flexibility and efficiency of power transmission, while enhancing its ability to evacuate more bulk electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and neighbouring communities.

The company noted that the Katsina transmission substation is one of several infrastructure projects being implemented nationwide to modernise and reinforce Nigeria’s electricity transmission network in response to growing power demand.
