Drivers Raise Alarm Over Alleged Fuel Under-Dispensing
Some commercial drivers operating along the Lugbe–Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory have condemned the alleged use of under-dispensing fuel pumps by some filling stations to shortchange unsuspecting motorists.
Speaking with Kapital FM in Abuja, the drivers alleged that certain fuel pumps fail to dispense the quantity of petrol displayed on their meters, leaving customers with less fuel despite paying for the full amount.
They attributed the alleged sharp practices to inaccurate calibration of fuel pumps and fraudulent sales records by some petrol station attendants.
The drivers expressed concern that the alleged manipulation of fuel dispensing pumps is becoming increasingly common, and called on relevant regulatory authorities to identify and sanction filling stations found culpable.
They also urged the authorities to intensify routine inspections of fuel retail outlets through a dedicated taskforce, saying this would help protect consumers and restore confidence in the fuel dispensing system.
