WIFE Seeks Prayers, Greater Investment in Women Ahead of 2027

The Women Initiative for Family Economy (WIFE) has called for continued investment in women, including improved access to capital, skills, markets, education, technology and opportunities for economic independence.

The President of Women in WIFE and convener of the programme, Hajiya A’isha Abdulkadir Ya’u, made the call during an interfaith prayer session organised for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria and for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
A’isha stressed the need for all well-meaning Nigerians to pray for the nation’s leaders, especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, asking Almighty Allah to grant them wisdom, courage, good health and the spirit of justice as they lead the country into the next dispensation.
She also called for prayers for members of the Federal Executive Council, National Assembly, state and local government leaders, the judiciary, civil servants and all those entrusted with public responsibilities in Nigeria.
According to her, prayers should also be offered for the Armed Forces, police and other security agencies for divine protection and victory in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, violence, crime and other threats to national peace.
The convener said nation-building is a continuous process, while recognising the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in areas including infrastructure, economic reform, transportation, housing, agriculture, education, healthcare, energy and investment in major road and rail projects.
She also highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for providing educational support to students.
“Women are not spectators in nation-building; they are mothers, entrepreneurs, farmers, professionals, educators, community builders, political participants and peace builders. Therefore, they must remain central to national development,” she said.
A’isha also appreciated and commended the efforts of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her remarkable commitment to the empowerment and welfare advancement of Nigerian women through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
She said the initiative has supported women economically and socially, promoted entrepreneurship and skills development, created opportunities for women to become self-reliant and enabled them to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
The convener also expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Hajiya Asama’u Abdul Aziz Yari, the National Patron of Women in WIFE, for her support, guidance, encouragement and commitment to the growth of women in Nigeria.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), represented by the National Financial Secretary, Dr Haruna Ginsau, said the party remains firmly committed to policies that empower families, strengthen local economies and expand opportunities for women in governance and enterprise.
He said the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu places women and family welfare at the centre of national development.
“As we look toward the future for the continued progress of our nation and the success of our leadership heading into 2027, let us remember that prayers must be matched with unity, peace and steadfast support for the reforms and positions in Nigeria for long-term prosperity,” he said.
The APC National Chairman commended Ambassador Aisha Abdulkadir Ya’u and the entire leadership of WIFE for organising the special gathering, praying that Almighty Allah would hear the collective prayers, bless families, grant wisdom to the nation’s leaders and preserve the peace and unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the representative of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, assured that the doors of the National Assembly remain open to amending existing laws for the benefit of women in Nigeria.
He reiterated the commitment of the National Assembly to continue helping women attain positions required by law for their socio-economic development.
Two clerics from the Islamic and Christian faiths also prayed for Allah’s guidance and blessings upon the nation’s leaders.
Sheikh Tajudeen Imam, who represented the National Chairman of JIBWIS, stressed the need to pray for the nation’s leaders to enable them to administer justice in the interest of all Nigerians.
He prayed for Allah’s guidance for political leaders and called for a peaceful and harmonious 2027 general election devoid of violence, urging Nigerians to accept the outcome in the fear of Allah and in the interest of national peace and unity.
Also, Reverend John Joseph Hayap of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) supported the call for prayers, saying Christians pray not for politics but according to the commandments of the Bible.
He prayed that God Almighty would guide President Tinubu to administer the country in peace, love and unity, and surround him with good advisers who would help lead the country in the right direction for the development of all Nigerians.
