NEC Endorses 2026–2030 Social Protection Policy

The National Economic Council (NEC) has endorsed the Revised National Social Protection Policy for 2026–2030 and approved the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions across the country.

The resolutions were reached at the Council’s 160th meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
NEC also directed state governments to align their social protection policies and implementation plans with the revised national framework.
The Vice President urged members of the Council to sustain ongoing economic reforms to ensure that they translate into more jobs and improved living standards for Nigerians.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwan Oyedele, informed the Council that Nigeria’s economy had stabilised and regained its status as an investment destination, although geopolitical conflicts and pre-election withdrawals were identified as potential risks.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said the rehabilitation of the police training institutions would be completed within three weeks to prepare them for upcoming Nigeria Police Force training programmes.
