‘Ibro’ Remembered: Northern Senators Forum Pays Tribute to Ibrahim Idris
The Northern Senators Forum mourns the passing of former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Adejo Idris, CON, fondly known as “Ibro,” and commiserates with the Government and people of Kogi State, the Igala people, his family, friends and political associates over the profound loss.
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was a remarkable Nigerian whose life reflected a deep commitment to the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria.
His death is not only a loss to Kogi State but to the entire nation, which benefited from his years of service, leadership and commitment to public life.
Before venturing into partisan politics in 2003, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris spent several decades building a successful business career.
He established Ibro Trading Company and developed interests in furniture manufacturing, construction, hospitality, property and general commerce.
His entrepreneurial journey began in the 1970s, including the establishment of a furniture factory in Sokoto and the Ibro Hotel. This gave him more than three decades of business experience before he became Governor.
He was not only a businessman but also an employer of labour, philanthropist and community builder whose enterprises created opportunities for many Nigerians.
As Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris devoted almost nine years to public service and became the state’s longest-serving governor. His administration was associated with major interventions in infrastructure, water, education, healthcare, roads and other sectors.
After leaving office, he remained an influential figure in the Peoples Democratic Party and Nigerian politics. His political journey was also marked by a broad network of relationships across Nigeria, reflecting the pan-Nigerian outlook for which he was widely remembered.
Igala has lost a patriot; Kogi has lost an elder statesman; and Nigeria has lost a believer in the Nigerian project.
On behalf of the Northern Senators Forum, we extend our deepest condolences to the Government and people of Kogi State, the Igala Kingdom, the Idris family and the entire Peoples Democratic Party family.
We pray that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, rewards his good deeds and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus.
May Allah grant his family, the people of Kogi State and all Nigerians who mourn this great loss the strength and fortitude to bear his passing.
