ADC Suffers Fresh Blow as Two Sokoto Chieftains Join APC

Alhaji Sanusi Mai Kyame, and former ADC Director General, Alhaji Umar Salah—have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alhaji Sanusi Mai Kyame, a former PDP chairman and ADC chieftain in Sokoto North, was received into the APC by the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Adiya, assisted by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Alhaji Faruku Labbo, and other party officials.
Similarly, Alhaji Umar Salah, a former Director General of the ADC, was received into the APC by the Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, with the support of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ladan Ala.
The two defections occurred shortly after the new entrants met with Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Government House on Saturday morning.
Speaking shortly after his defection, Alhaji Sanusi Mai Kyame said his decision to join the APC was motivated by what he described as the sterling leadership qualities of Governor Ahmed Aliyu and his respect for human dignity.
He also cited the massive transformation taking place across the state under the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration as another factor behind his decision to join the ruling party.
On his part, former ADC Director General, Alhaji Umar Salah, said his decision to defect to the APC was motivated by the transformative agenda of Governor Ahmed Aliyu and the various developmental projects being executed across the state.
He said the projects were aimed at improving the quality of life of the people, adding that he had therefore decided to rally around the Governor and support his administration.
Alhaji Salah assured the Governor of his total support, as well as that of his followers, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Adiya, commended Alhaji Sanusi Mai Kyame for what he described as a wise decision to join the APC and for his commitment to the development of the state.
He assured him that he would be carried along in the affairs of the party, stressing that the APC in Sokoto State was blessed with leaders who keep their promises and put the interests of the people first.
Similarly, Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal welcomed Alhaji Umar Salah into the APC and assured him of equal treatment within the party.
He stressed that there was no discrimination in the APC, adding that all members were important to the success of the party.
Tambuwal also commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for, according to him, exceeding expectations through the execution of various projects across the state.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to continue to guide and protect the Governor so that he could sustain his efforts towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Sokoto State.
The latest defections add to the growing list of prominent members who have left the ADC for the APC in recent months, with defections reported across several of the state’s 23 local government areas.
