Road safety: FRSC urges collaboration, innovation and stronger interventions.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called for stronger partnerships and data-driven measures to reduce road crashes and improve safety across the country.
The Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, represented by the Deputy Corps Marshal, Pauline Olaye, made the call at the 2026 Special Marshals Annual Conference.
The conference, themed “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact through Strategic Partnership and Data-Driven Road Safety Interventions,” focused on strengthening the role of Special Marshals in road safety management.
Mallam Mohammed said the changing road safety situation requires innovative and evidence-based approaches to emerging challenges.
He urged Special Marshals at the zonal, state and unit levels to improve collaboration in road safety education, traffic management, emergency response, post-crash care, youth engagement and community interventions.
He said the recommendations from the conference would strengthen the Special Marshals scheme nationwide, especially through the implementation of the 2025 Special Marshals Guidelines.
According to him, the guidelines promote accountability, transparency, leadership development and better coordination within the scheme.
The Corps Marshal reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to continuous capacity building, stronger stakeholder engagement and improved operational support for Special Marshals.
He also commended the Special Marshals for their voluntary service, noting that their contributions complement the work of Regular Marshals and help save lives on Nigerian roads.
Also speaking, the Zonal Coordinator, Special Marshals, Comrade Sani Adisa, called for closer cooperation among government agencies, communities, civil society organisations and other road safety stakeholders.
He said the conference would allow participants to share experiences, identify operational challenges and develop practical solutions to road safety needs in their respective zones.
Comrade Adisa emphasised the need for Nigerians to join voluntary service and support efforts towards strengthening the operations of paramilitary agencies for better service delivery.
The conference featured the presentation of honorary awards and awards of excellence to Special Marshals recognised for their contributions to road safety and public service.
