2027; Makinde Will Defeat Tinubu in South West , other Regions Against The Economist Projection —APM National Publicity Secretary
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has said President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot win the 2027 presidential election, citing loss of support across all six geo-political zones.
National Publicity Secretary of APM, Abubakar Yusuf, said this while reacting to a projection by The Economist that Nigerians dislike their president, but may re-elect him anyway.
The magazine, in its latest edition, cited what it considered Nigeria’s “complicated electoral dynamics,” noting political cynicism, a divided opposition, religion, incumbency advantage and historically low voter turnout in some areas.
It noted “Incumbents, with access to the ruling-party machinery and plentiful cash to dole out goodies, have tended to have an advantage in recent Nigerian elections.”
But speaking exclusively to LEADERSHIP, Yusuf, said independent economic and political projections show the ruling party has lost its traditional strongholds.
“That’s not true, where is he going to win? The North West, North East, North Central, South West, South South and South East, where?” Yusuf queried.

He said President Tinubu will struggle in the North, arguing that Hausa voters will not vote for him, while in the North Central, states like Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue and Kwara will be taken from the APC.
According to him, only Kogi and Niger with paltry votes may be left for the APC in the North Central.
On the South West, the APM spokesman said the President is only sure of Ondo and Ekiti with less than half a million votes, adding that Lagos is not guaranteed.
“The South East is a no-go area. South South, only Port Harcourt will be rigged for him,” he said.
Yusuf argued that theoretical explanations of the economy without reality on ground will not secure victory.

“So where will he win with only theoretical explanation of the country’s economy without reality on ground? Even President Tinubu and his followers know through in-depth analysis that this time it is not going to be business as usual,” he said.
He cited Borno, which he described as a stable ground for the APC, now becoming the launching pad of the ‘Tinubu Must Go’ movement.
He added that speculations indicate some APC governors will disappoint the President in the January general election.
“Look at Borno, the stable ground for APC is now the launching pad of Tinubu Must Go. Some of his governors according to speculations will disappoint him, so tell me how President Tinubu and APC will win the January general elections,” Yusuf said.(Leadership)
