Nigeria has called on Hungary to increase its scholarship allocation for Nigerian students under the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme to enable more qualified candidates to access higher education opportunities.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Engr. Abass Braimah, made the appeal on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during a working visit to the headquarters of Tempus Public Foundation in Budapest, Hungary.

Braimah, who was accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission and Minister Plenipotentiary, Mrs Vivienne Ekwora Ogonyi, was received by the Foundation’s Director-General, Mr Péter Tordai, and the Director of Study in Hungary, Ms Orsolya Jánosik.

The meeting focused on strengthening educational cooperation between Nigeria and Hungary, particularly through the Stipendium Hungaricum programme, which provides international students with opportunities to study at Hungarian universities.

The Nigerian envoy said the current allocation of 50 scholarship slots for Nigeria was inadequate, considering the country’s large population and the number of students seeking opportunities for higher education abroad.
