President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday led All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators, senatorial candidates and other critical stakeholders to a crucial meeting with Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

At the meeting, the First Lady announced a ₦12.1 billion Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) intervention to support elderly citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Nigeria’s 109 senatorial districts.

Under the programmes, 250 persons with disabilities in each district will receive ₦200,000 each on December 3, 2026, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Similarly, 250 elderly citizens aged 65 and above in each district will receive the same amount on December 17 under the RHI Elderly Support Scheme. Both initiatives will also extend support to veterans.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with APC senators and senatorial candidates, the First Lady urged them to ensure transparent distribution, stressing that the interventions must reach all deserving beneficiaries, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or religion.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were among the leaders in attendance.
