JNPSNC Defends N70,000 Transportation Allowance Agreement Amid TUC Opposition
The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) has defended the N70,000 transportation allowance agreement reached between the Federal Government and organised labour.
Reacting to concerns over the Trade Union Congress (TUC)’s rejection of the allowance, the Council maintained that the agreement was reached after extensive negotiations involving the JNPSNC, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU).
In a circular signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo, the JNPSNC explained that the agreement was reached on October 27, following more than six hours of negotiations presided over by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi.
The Council urged state and local governments to adopt the agreement to ensure that public servants at all levels benefit.
It also disclosed that the agreement provides for the implementation of the outstanding 40 per cent peculiar allowance, reflecting the N70,000 minimum wage, with effect from November 2026.
On tax relief for public servants and private-sector workers, the meeting resolved to present the matter to the National Economic Council for consideration, given its implications for both federal and state governments.
