Electrocution Claims the Lives of Family of Four in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command has officially confirmed the electrocution of a family of four on Monday. This heart-wrenching incident happened around 11:00 a.m., casting a pall of sorrow over the community.
Mr. Abdullahi Usman, the Taraba State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the news in an official statement from Jalingo.
Preliminary findings point to a potential power surge as the cause of this tragic occurrence.
“We suspect it resulted from a power surge. At around 11:00 a.m. on Monday, we received reliable reports of a house in the Dinyavoh area of Jalingo being engulfed in flames,” Mr. Usman stated.
Promptly responding to the emergency, detectives from the GRA Police Division were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they were confronted with a distressing scene – four individuals with severe burns believed to have been caused by electrocution. The victims were identified as Remond Ofonbuk, 44, his wife, Mfonbong Remond, Hevean Remond, 15, and First Remond, aged 13.
It is reported that the incident coincided with the restoration of power supply, during which the transformer serving the area experienced a failure. This resulted in a surge of high electric voltage coursing through the neighborhood, potentially triggering the deadly fire.
“Our detectives quickly evacuated the victims to Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, for medical attention, but tragically, they were pronounced dead upon arrival,” Mr. Usman revealed, his voice laden with sorrow.
The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the hospital’s mortuary for a thorough autopsy as authorities have initiated an investigation to unravel the precise circumstances that led to this tragedy.
