Mr Stephen Bawa has been turbaned as the District Head of Old Kutunku in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Also turbaned were Alhaji Muhammadu Sarki as the Village Head of Old Kutunku and Mallam Musa Dantani as the Dakachi of Gede, all in Gwagwalada.
Speaking at the turbaning ceremony in Gwagwalada, the Aguma of Gwagwalada, Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji, charged District Heads and community leaders to always be fair and just in their dealings with people in their communities, regardless of tribe, religion or political affiliation.
According to Alhaji Magaji, the advice was necessary to sustain the prevailing peace and unity in the area and to promote the overall progress and development of Gwagwalada and its environs.
The traditional ruler, who described peaceful coexistence as the cornerstone of societal development, warned that government would not hesitate to sanction any District or Village Head found wanting in the discharge of their duties.
He therefore urged all District and Village Heads in Gwagwalada to contribute meaningfully to the peace and development of the area.
In his remarks, the newly turbaned District Head of Old Kutunku, Mr Stephen Bawa, expressed gratitude to the Aguma of Gwagwalada, Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji, for the honour bestowed on him.
Mr Bawa pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him by the Aguma and the entire Old Kutunku community, assuring that he would deploy his wealth of experience and knowledge to attract developmental projects to the area.
While soliciting the support and cooperation of the people of Old Kutunku, he promised to carry everyone along in the day-to-day administration of the community.
In their separate remarks, the Village Head of Old Kutunku, Alhaji Muhammadu Sarki, and the Dakachi of Gede, Mallam Musa Dantani, thanked the Aguma of Gwagwalada for turbaning and recognising them as leaders of their respective communities.
They both pledged to contribute their quota to the growth and development of their communities.
Also speaking, the Mai Angwar of Old Kutunku, Keida Road, Phase II, Gwagwalada, Chief Bitrus Mohammed Baba, congratulated Mr Stephen Bawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Sarki and Mallam Musa Dantani on their turbaning as District and Village Heads.
Chief Baba advised them to remain committed to the yearnings and aspirations of their people in order to ensure sustainable peace and development in their communities.
While thanking the Aguma of Gwagwalada for the turbaning exercise, the Mai Angwar used the opportunity to appeal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr Nyesom Wike, to consider reconstructing the dilapidated major road in Keida community to ease hardship and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
He further called on the people of Old Kutunku to support their newly turbaned District and Village Heads, noting that meaningful development in any community requires collective effort and cooperation between the leadership and the people.
