Anambra Police Nab Four Suspected Cultists in Nsugbe

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilante operatives, has apprehended four suspected cultists following a violent clash in Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area.

According to reports, on September 16, 2025, at about 7:00 a.m., armed men believed to be cultists were seen attacking one another with cutlasses, broken bottles, daggers, and other dangerous weapons behind the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.

A swift response by the joint Police and Vigilante team led to the arrest of four suspects: Oyachonam Friday (26), Akachukwu Ekwenze (23), David Chukwuma (25), and Eziolise Aloysius (23), while others escaped into the nearby bushes. During the clash, one of the suspects, David Chukwuma, sustained machete injuries. He has since received medical attention and is responding to treatment, pending further investigation.

The arrested suspects have reportedly confessed to being members of the notorious “AYES” confraternity. The case is currently under investigation, with efforts underway to track down the fleeing members.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS, PhD, has reassured residents of Anambra that the Command remains committed to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the State.
