The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has bestowed its prestigious fellowship award on the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, and made available to journalists in Abuja.

Senator Barau, himself a professional accountant, was conferred with the title of Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA) during ANAN’s 30th Annual National Conference in Abuja on Tuesday. The FCNA is the highest professional designation of the association.

Administering the oath of allegiance, ANAN President and Chairman of Council, Chief (Hajia) Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, described Senator Barau as a worthy ambassador of the accountancy profession.

> “By the powers vested in me as President and Chairman of Council of this noble association—Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), by Act 76 of 1993 (CAP A 26 LFN, 2004)—I hereby admit you into the fellowship of the association. With this, you can add FCNA to your name. We are proud of you and we celebrate you,” she declared to loud applause.

In addition, Senator Barau was presented with an award for chairing the association’s national conference.

Several dignitaries paid glowing tributes to him, including the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

ANAN’s Chairman of the Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops Committee, Malam Adamu Abubakar, described Senator Barau as a reform-driven leader whose legislative contributions continue to shape Nigeria’s fiscal policy.

> “Senator Barau’s career reflects exceptional mastery of public finance management, sharpened through his leadership of appropriation committees in both Chambers of the National Assembly,” he noted.

In his remarks, Senator Barau commended ANAN for its commitment to building a world-class financial and accounting sector in Nigeria.

He lauded the association’s efforts in strengthening ethics, governance, and compliance through strategic collaborations and regulatory reforms—initiatives that he said complement the National Assembly’s legislative drive to enhance financial integrity.

He further praised ANAN’s emphasis on public sector financial management, stressing the crucial role accountants play in ensuring accountability and the judicious use of public funds.

> “This aligns with government’s focus on fiscal responsibility, as enshrined in the Fiscal Responsibility Act,” he added.
