BORGU MUST DRY ITS TEARS AND STAND UNITED AGAINST TERRORISM AND BANDITRY

Grief and sorrow are hardly sufficient to describe the depth of my feelings over the senseless, calculated, and brutal attacks carried out on Kasuwan Daji rural communities in Borgu Local Government Area, barely three days into the New Year.

This was contained in a statement signed by Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, CON (Baraden Borgu), Honourable Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, and made available to journalists in Abuja.

With 42 people—among them women, children, and the elderly—confirmed dead; several others sustaining varying degrees of injuries; homes destroyed; and an unspecified number of residents abducted, the heinous act stands as a stark reflection of the wickedness and moral bankruptcy of the terrorists and bandits determined to violently disrupt the long-standing peace and means of livelihood of communities in Borgu, Niger State.

My heartfelt condolences go to the families who have lost their loved ones, and I wish a speedy recovery to all those injured in the course of these horrific atrocities. These are undoubtedly trying times for the Farmer Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Mohammed Umar Bago.

I wish to once again affirm my unwavering support for the wide range of measures he has put in place to strengthen the safety and security of Nigerlites, particularly those living in vulnerable communities.
Only a fortnight ago, I issued a statement commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his exemplary leadership in securing the safe release of nearly 300 pupils, students, teachers, and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri community. They were abducted by terrorists who invaded their school premises in Borgu on November 21, 2025.

I urge the indigenes and residents of Borgu to draw reassurance from the firm resolve of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to track down and bring to justice those responsible for these latest atrocious crimes against our communities.
We must mourn our dead and the loss of our possessions. However, I call on the people of Borgu to summon their age-old spirit of resilience, wipe away their tears, and resolve never to allow lawless terrorists and bandits dictate the pace of their lives. As has become evident, these merchants of violence are indiscriminate in their attacks; they recognize neither Christian nor Muslim, nor do they target any particular ethnic group. Anyone—Bussawa, Hausa, Kambari, Fulani—can fall victim.
We must therefore unite and work closely with our security and defence forces to flush out these undesirable elements, who must now realize that Borgu can neither serve as a safe haven nor a stage for their acts of terror.
