The Peoples Democratic Party has officially confirmed the death of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who collapsed unexpectedly at the Government House in Yenagoa on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement released later that night and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki–led PDP said it received the news “with deep shock,” describing the late deputy governor as “a loyal and dependable party stalwart.

“The National Working Committee, under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and the entire membership of our great party—particularly our committed members in Bayelsa State—are engulfed in deep sorrow,” the statement said.

The party hailed Senator Ewhrudjakpo as “a sincere and steadfast public servant who practised politics guided by principle. He was driven by conviction, not convenience; a leader whose character was rooted in belief, integrity, and unwavering commitment. He upheld these values until his last moments.”

The PDP further extended its sympathies to the government and people of Bayelsa State.

“We mourn the passing of this symbol of political integrity and pray for the repose of his soul. We offer heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Bayelsa State for this painful and irreparable loss,” the statement added.
