CAN Launches campaign against Gender Based Violence

The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN has called on Leaders at all levels to take active role in bringing to an end the scourge of Gender – based Violence GBV in the country.

CAN President, Most Reverend Daniel Okoh made the call in Abuja at the launch of a Gender-Based Violence Prevention Project .

Most Reverend Daniel Okoh said the project would raise awareness against the violence, train clerics and church workers on how to respond to abuse and promote survivor center support system as well as advocating for stronger laws and enforcement to protect victims.

Speaking further on the theme: “Christain Leaders’ Response to Violence Against Women and Girls” The CAN President commended collaboration between CAN, Ford Foundation and WEWE stressing that Faith based organizations and Humanitarian groups can come together to create social change in the communities.

“This partnership represents what can be achieved when faith meets action and compassion is translated into advocacy and service,” he said.

“Men and women of God must not be silent when women are being brutalised in their homes and communities”.

Most Reverend Daniel Okoh emphasized that the Church must carry moral responsibility of creating safe spaces, speak out against injustice, and actively supporting survivors.
