The Commander General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Dr. Joshua Osatimehin, has cautioned Nigerians against misleading online reports claiming that the Service is conducting a nationwide recruitment of 30,000 personnel.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Dr. Osatimehin dismissed the reports as false and unfounded, describing them as the handiwork of fraudsters seeking to exploit the credibility and achievements of the NFSS to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

He clarified that the NFSS is not recruiting and does not operate any recruitment portal. According to him, the Service has not commenced any form of enlistment anywhere in the country.

“At the National Headquarters of the NFSS, we do not have an official recruitment portal. Although President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the NFSS, we are currently at the stage of harmonisation. It is only after this process, and upon directives from the Office of the National Security Adviser in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, that further steps will be taken. For now, NFSS is not recruiting, and the public should disregard these fake reports,” he emphasized.

The Commander General used the occasion to express appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as well as the Military, DSS, Police, NSCDC, Customs, Immigration and NDLEA for their sustained support to the NFSS over the years.

Dr. Osatimehin also commended the Senate and the House of Representatives for the passage of the NFSS Bill, noting that the action demonstrated the lawmakers’ commitment to addressing crimes in Nigeria’s forested areas.

He appealed to President Tinubu to assent to the NFSS Bill, saying it would further advance the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in strengthening national security.

The NFSS Commander General reaffirmed the Service’s readiness and commitment to continue complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies in combating banditry, kidnapping, Boko Haram insurgency, terrorism and other forms of criminality, especially within forest regions across the country.
