Chaos on Kaduna–Abuja Rail: Trains Collide, Hundreds Stranded
Hundreds of passengers were thrown into panic Monday morning after two trains collided on the busy Kaduna–Abuja rail line, forcing authorities to halt operations.
Passengers described a sudden, violent jolt that sent people sprawling across train cabins. Some sustained injuries, with a few reported bleeding.
Social media was flooded with posts capturing the shock and fear.“A loud bang, and the train stopped abruptly. People were flung everywhere. No one knew what was happening,” wrote one passenger.
Reports indicate one train departed Kaduna as scheduled but later crashed into another train on the same track. It’s unclear if the second train was stationary or moving.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has not confirmed casualty numbers. Early observations suggest heavy damage to the front sections of both trains, but no confirmed fatalities have been reported.
Emergency responders and security personnel are on-site, assisting passengers and investigating what went wrong. Questions are mounting about safety and signaling systems on Nigeria’s busiest rail corridor.
Passengers report delays of up to 30 minutes and little official communication.
Authorities are urging caution and patience as the investigation continues.
